Stereo vs Atmos, the same concert

Headphones recommendedPlug in headphones to feel the spatialization : stereo speakers won't render the effect correctly.

Two channels, one plane

Every element sits at the same distance : the classic stereo mix, between two speakers.

Atmos isn't a mix.
It's a career move.

Four concrete levers, beyond the sound itself, that change how your live show is distributed, paid, and heard.

01

The editorial edgeStereo is saturated with millions of tracks. Atmos editorial playlists are still sparsely populated — and Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon Music actively push their algorithmic recommendations there.

02

The financial bonusApple Music pays up to 10% more in royalties on tracks available in Spatial Audio (a 1.1 factor vs. 1.0) — whether the listener plays the Atmos version or not. Every stream pays more.

03

Listener engagementAn immersive experience holds attention longer. Fewer skips, more full plays — two signals recommendation algorithms watch closely.

04

The "Major label" positioningThe biggest labels already mix their catalog in Atmos. Moving to Spatial Audio means playing with the same technological tools — and future-proofing your catalog for tomorrow's standards.

05

Mixed for your real listenersStudios with a physical Atmos room (7.1.4) validate their work in conditions fewer than 5% of listeners ever reproduce at home. I mix directly on headphones, in binaural — the real listening conditions of most of your audience on Apple Music, Tidal, and Spotify.

Almost all of your audience listens to Atmos on headphones, in binaural — that's exactly the condition I mix in, not a room they'll never reproduce.

Technical commitments & terms +

Every project starts with a free technical audit of the multitrack and ambient mics, to confirm Atmos feasibility before any firm quote.

Before your live mix

How do I get my files after my concert?

The venue's sound crew usually hands you your raw multitrack directly (USB drive). Send it to me afterward if you want to start a mix.

Who owns the rights to my recording?

It depends on the venue's policy where you played — some formally waive any producer rights over recordings, others don't. Check this with them before any commercial exploitation; I can mix your multitrack either way, but that clarification is on you.

Do I need approval from guest musicians?

Yes, for any non-permanent band member (a guest horn player, a one-off backing vocalist...) — a simple written agreement before release is enough. Permanent members don't need to do anything more.

Can I release a recording where my band plays a cover?

Yes for a faithful cover (same lyrics/melody) — no paperwork needed in France/Europe, streaming platforms pay royalties to SACEM automatically. An adaptation (altered melody/lyrics) requires explicit prior authorization, at your own cost.

Why is ambient sound essential for Atmos?

Ambient mics feed the surround and height channels — the feeling of being in the crowd rather than listening from outside. Without this recording, Atmos is still possible but loses its most spectacular dimension.

What if my concert wasn't recorded with ambient mics?

Mixing is still possible from the stage recording alone, just without the room's texture. Ask for the ambient mics to be enabled ahead of your next show.

What's the revision and approval process?

A secure binaural listening link, playable on headphones. 2 revisions for Stereo, 3 for Atmos — Stereo approval is final before spatialization.
